Install Kurzweil on macOS

Introduction

Kurzweil 3000 is an assistive technology, text to speech, learning tool that supports the concept of Universal Design for Learning with a suite of powerful reading, writing, test-taking, and study skill tools that makes curriculum accessible to all students.

Miami's licensing agreement allows Kurzweil 3000 to be installed for free on both personal and university-owned computers. Versions are available for both Macintosh and Windows computers

Details

  1. Click the Download and Install button on begin the download.
  2. Enter your Miami credentials when prompted, to begin the download. The installer will be saved to your Downloads folder. Do not power off, put to sleep or disconnect from the network until the download completes.
  3. Click on the download file, displayed at the bottom of your browser window, to extract the installer.
  4. Once the install files extract the Downloads folders will open. If necessary, press Command-Option-L to open your Downloads folder.
  5. Press the Control key and click on the Kurzweil package file that was downloaded. Click Open from the short-cut menu.
  6. When prompted that this installer is from an "unidentified developer", click the Open button. The app is saved as an exception to your security settings.
  7. Follow the prompts to proceed through the installer. When the install finishes you may choose to either "Keep" the installer or "Move to trash".
  8. Press F4 to open the Launchpad, locate and click Kurzweil to open the application.

You will be prompted to login to Kurzweil. To activate and use the software you must email sds@miaimoh.edu to request an account.
