Install Matlab for Windows

Introduction

Matlab is designed to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models.

Students, faculty and staff may download and install Matlab on their personally owned computers.

Details

  1. Select Download and Install to get started.
  2. Enter your Miami credentials when prompted to begin the download. The installer will be saved to your Downloads folder. Do not power off your computer, put to sleep, or disconnect from the network until the download completes.
  3. Click the file that was downloaded, displayed at the bottom of your browser window. The disk image (.ISO) will mount to a drive letter and the drive window will open.
  4. Note that the disk image contains a file named "Matlab Activation Key". You may need the activation code inside this file if you are creating a Matlab account for the first time. Double click Install.bat to begin the installer. A command window will open, files will be extracted, and then the install program will run. The Matlab install program has been customized with an answer file, so you will see the install screens, but you won't have to enter information or click next.
  5. All screens will automatically close once the installation is complete.
  6. You now need to activate Matlab, by creating a Matlab account. Click Start, then type Matlab to launch Matlab R2017a.
  7. On the first activation screen, select "Activate automatically using the Internet", then click Next.
  8. Select "I need to create an Account" if this is the first time you have used Matlab, otherwise enter your Miami email address and Matlab password. Click Next.
  9. If you are creating a Matlab account for the first time, fill in all the text fields. It is important that you use your @miamioh.edu email address. The activation code can be found on the disk image in the file "Matlab Activation Key" or you can download the Matlab Activation Key. Open this file, then copy and paste the activation key (numbers only) into the text field. Click Next.
  10. Check your email for a message with a subject of "Verify the e-mail address for your MathWorks Account". Follow the link to verify your MathWorks account.
  11. Return to the Matlab activation window, and then click Next.
  12. Enter your local Windows User name that will be using Matlab on this computer, and then click Next.
  13. Click Confirm to complete the activation process, and then click Finish.

Note to Windows 7 Users: You will need an application to mount the .ISO install disk. We recommend using WinISO.
