Objective

• To provide instruction on locating the MAC address for
  • An Amazon Echo device
  • A Google Home  or Google Home Mini device
  • A virtual assistant

Environment

  • Google Home, Google Home Mini

Rationale

• All network interfaces have a unique media access control identifier (MAC address) used for communication purposes on a network. You might be asked to locate and provide the MAC address of a computer or other device when you, for example, register a computer for access to the network
• Your device may have more than one MAC address, if you have both wired and wireless interfaces
• The format for a MAC address (also called a physical address or Ethernet hardware address) is 12 alphanumeric characters, usually separated by colons: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX or 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f

Google Home

Device is linked to my account

1. On your mobile device, open the Google Home app
2. Tap the Devices option
3. Tap the three-dot menu icon for your device (it's to the right)
4. Select Device Settings
5. Scroll to the bottom of the screen
   • The MAC address of your device will be displayed under the Information header in the format 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f 

Device is not linked to my account

1. On your mobile device, open the Google Home app
2. Plug in your Google Home device and turn it on
   • Your device should appear as a device found in the Google Home app
3. Tap the Set up new devices in your home option and follow the prompts until you reach the Connect to Wi-Fi step
4. Tap the three-dot menu icon (it's to the upper-right)
5. Tap the Show MAC address option
6. You should see the MAC address of your device displayed in the format: 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f
