    • 10395: Web Authentication Services (WAS)

Error + Resolution

Error Message Invalid username or password
Affected User / Action Miami University staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when attempting to log in to their Miami account (myMiami, etc.)
Cause You did not provide a Social Security number when applying to or joining the University
Applied Resolution

Log in with your default password

  • If you did not provide the University with a Social Security number, your default password is your two-digit month of birth, two-digit day of birth, and the last four digits of your Banner+ ID number (MMDDBBBB)
    • Example: Your birth day is April 1, and your Banner+ ID is +00123456, so your default password would be 04013456
 
Error Message This site can't be reached. The connection was reset.
Affected User / Client Office / Action Miami University staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when attempting to use a new password to log in to their Miami account (myMiami, etc.)
Cause You made a mistake when you changed your MUnet password
Applied Resolution

Verify that you successfully changed your MUnet password

  1. Log in to myMiami with your new password 
  2. If you are unable to log in using your new password, go to MUnet Password Utilities to change your password again 
  3. If you cannot access the site, contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 for assistance

Error Message Inactive account
Affected User / Action Miami University staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when attempting to change or reset their MUnet password
Cause You entered your Banner+ number or other information in the UniqueID field on the User Validation page of MUnet Password Utilities
Applied Resolution
  1. Go to Miami's UniqueID Lookup tool and use your Banner+ ID or Social Security number to search for your UniqueID
  2. Return to the MUnet Password User Validation page and enter your UniqueID in the UniqueID field 
  3. If you cannot access your information, contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 for assistance
Associated Procedure Resolution (IT Help)
 
Error Message Inactive account
Affected User / Action Miami University alumni, staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when attempting to access their Miami account
Cause
  • Your account is in the process of being updated
  • Your account needs to be reactivated
Applied Resolution
  1. Go to Miami's UniqueID Lookup tool and use your Banner+ ID or Social Security number to search for your UniqueID
  2. Go to Miami's Password Utilities page
  3. Select I would like to change my password and follow the prompts to change your password
  4. If you receive the same error, contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 to reactivate your account
  5. Provide the following information:
    • Your UniqueID
    • Current role at Miami (e.g., staff, faculty, student, alumni)
Associated Procedure Resolution (IT Help)
 
Error Message Missing WAS Profile
Affected User / Action Miami University staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when attempting to change or reset their MUnet password
Cause There is a configuration error in your authentication profile
Applied Resolution
  1. Contact IT Help at 513-529-7900 for assistance
  2. Provide the following information:
    • Your UniqueID
    • The error message you received

(Known) Error Message An unexpected error has occurred
Affected User / Action Miami University alumni, staff, faculty, or student receives this error message when using the MUnet Password Utilities tool
Cause A known issue in our password infrastructure causes this error to appear intermittently
Applied Resolution Follow this link to MiamiOH.edu/Password and try to access the page again — i​​​t may take a few tries for the page to appear successfully
