Environment

    • Fire TV (Amazon)
    • Roku player
    • Samsung Smart TV
    • TiVo

Rationale

  • All network interfaces have a unique media access control identifier (MAC address) used for communication purposes on a network. You might be asked to locate and provide the MAC address of a computer or other device when you, for example, register a gaming device
  • Your device may have more than one MAC address, if you have both wired and wireless interfaces
  • The format for a MAC address (also called a physical address or Ethernet hardware address) is 12 alphanumeric characters, usually separated by colons: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX or 0a:1b:2c:3d:4e:5f 

Resolution

On an Apple TV

  1. From the main menu, select Settings 
  2. From the Settings screen, select General
  3. Under General, select Network or About
  4. Locate the Ethernet Address title
    • The MAC address for the wired network will be displayed next to the title Ethernet Address
    • The MAC address for the wireless network will be displayed next to the title Wi-Fi Address
  • You can also find the MAC address printed on the UPC label on the Apple TV box

 


On a Fire TV (Amazon)

  1. From the home screen, press Menu
  2. Select Settings
  3. Locate the Device Info section
    • The MAC address for your device will be displayed near the bottom of the screen

 


On a Roku streaming player

  1. From the home screen, select Settings
  2. From the Settings screen, select Player Info
    • The MAC address for your device will be displayed

On a Roku TV

  1. From the home screen, select Settings
  2. From the Settings screen, select About
    • The MAC addresses for the wireless and wired (Ethernet) networks will be displayed

 


On a Samsung Smart TV

  1. From the main menu, select Network
  2. Select Network Settings
  3. Choose Wired or Wireless for your connection type
    • The MAC addresses for the wireless and wired (Ethernet) networks are different
  4. Select Network Test
    • The MAC address for your device will be displayed at the top of the screen

 


On a TiVo device

  1. Press the TiVo button to go to TiVo Central
  2. Select Messages and Settings
  3. Select Phone and Network Setup
    • The MAC address for your device will be displayed in the top-right corner of the screen
