Miami Network / Assistance needed with a slow network connection

Objective

• To provide instruction on evaluating and reporting slow wired and wireless connections 
• To provide instruction on evaluating a wireless access point (AP) for connection speed

Environment

• 10139: Wireless Network
• 9583: Access Network
  • Wired Network
• Miami University Residence Halls

Resolution

1. Follow these KB instructions to run a connection speed test (select a server other then Oxford Ohio)
2. Make a screen-capture of the results
3. Contact IT Help by phone at 513-529-7900 or by live chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat to report the issue
4. Provide the following information:
   • Description of your issue
   • Your location, including building name and room number
   • Data jack ID number (the Ethernet port on the wall), if applicable
   • MAC address for both wired and wireless
     • This KB article will show you where to locate the MAC addresses for your computer 
   • Time of day when you experienced the issue
   • A screen capture of the speed test results you received from speedtest.net
