Setting a Page or Folder to be Unindexable and Unpublishable

Body

Why would you need to do this?

If you are working on a page in Cascade that is still in Draft status or under review, you must mark it as unpublishable to prevent it from being accidentally published—by yourself or another web editor. This ensures that incomplete or in-progress content is not pushed live unintentionally.

You also need to mark the page/folder as unindexable so the page does not show on a search.

How to set a page to not be indexed and published

  1. While in the page, select the Edit button

The top of the cms page is shownn with the Edit button highlighted

  2. In the Configure Tab, uncheck the 'Include when Indexing' and 'Include when Publishing' boxes.

The Properties tab of the Folder edit level with the include when publishing and indexing checkbox unchecked.

  3. Select Preview Draft and then Submit to finalize the changes

  4. If you want to test that it worked correctly, try to Publish. If it is set as unpublishable, you will get the following message:

The publish window shown with a Asset Not Publishable Error

How to set a folder to not be indexed and published

This follows a similar process of setting a page not to be indexed and published. It is useful if there are multiple pages within a folder that are not to be indexed or published.

  1. While at the folder level, select the Edit button

The top of the folder level with the Edit button highlighted.

  2. In the Properties Tab, uncheck the 'Include when Indexing' and 'Include when Publishing' boxes.

Folder Level view of the Configure area with both the Publish and Index checkboxes unchecked.

  3. Choose Submit

  4. If you try to Publish any page within the Folder that you set not to publish, you will get this error:

An error message appears when a page cannot be published because of a folder setting
