SOP #768: Mower Transport

Purpose and Scope

To formalize a departmental policy regarding the driving of mowers on campus.

Policy and Procedures:

1. Mowers may only be driven on Miami University owned roads, parking lots, sidewalks and bike paths
   • Mowers should only be driven on Miami University owned roads when no other option exists
   • Mowers are not permitted to drive on Miami University owned roads in the dark
2. Mowers are not permitted to drive on public roads except to cross them
   • Mowers may cross public roads at crosswalks only
3. Maximum speeds are 5 miles per hour in congested areas and 10 miles per hour in non-congested areas
4. Operators shall at all times yield to pedestrians
5. Mowers needing transport off campus must use an appropriate truck and trailer and are strictly forbidden from being driven on public roads
