Body
Purpose and Scope
To formalize a department policy outlining usage of Physical Facilities’ vehicles.
Policy
Walking should be the first choice for travel on Miami’s campus for business purposes, such as meetings, where the transport of tools, supplies or other equipment is not required. In lieu of walking, the Solar Powered Golf Cart (or electric vehicles, when they become available) should be used. Miami University also offers free bus service for all employees through BCRTA. When tools or other equipment must be transported to fulfill a job responsibility, PFD-provided vehicles may be used for business purposes only. Gas-powered pooled vehicles should only be used for off-campus travel or when tools/equipment that cannot be carried must be transported within campus.
Procedures
Pooled Vehicle Rules:
- Pooled vehicles must be signed out in the Operations Center. The employee signing out a pooled vehicle is responsible for that vehicle and will be held accountable for any violations of this SOP.
- Pooled sedans are not to be used for the transport of goods or materials that may damage a vehicle. Trucks, vans and other PFD-issued vehicles should be used for this purpose.
- Except for the Solar Powered Golf Car (or electric vehicles, when they become available), during regular business hours (7:00 am to 4:00 pm), pooled vehicles should only be used for off-campus travel or when tools/equipment that cannot be carried must be transported within campus.
- Maintenance supervisors and planners should use available maintenance vehicles as needed. If no vehicles are available, pooled vehicles may be used.
- Pooled vehicles are not to be kept by individuals when not in use. Keys must immediately be returned to the Operations Center when the vehicle is no longer in use so that other employees may have access to pooled vehicles.
