What can I expect?

  • Support Tier: Tier 2 - Sponsor Support: If students were to contact IT Help, they refer the user to an individual sponsor, typically an instructor of a given course. The sponsor would work directly with the vendor on any unresolved issues.

  • Acquisition Model: Direct Download: Software is downloaded to a local computer and installed to run from that specific device.

  • Licensing ModelRegistered User License: The license is included with online registration.

  • Authentication ModelMiami Single-Sign-On (SSO): Uses Miami's identify and access management to authenticate user as a current student or instructor.

Who may use it?

Faculty, staff, and students may install SAS on their personally owned computers.

How do I get started?

Automatic installation

  • After downloading the SAS ISO, mount the ISO as a virtual CD drive and then run the installer
  1. Click Download Installer
    • The installer will be saved to your Downloads folder
    • Do not power off, put to sleep, or disconnect from the network until the download completes
    Enter your Miami credentials, if prompted, to begin the download
  2. Close all applications and save your work
  3. Right-click the SAS .ISO file that you saved to your computer
  4. From the short-cut menu, choose Mount 
    • If prompted by AutoPlay, choose Open folder to view files
  5. Open My Computer and locate the drive-letter of the ISO
  6. Double-click the Install64.bat
    • If your operating system is 32-bit, double-click Install32.bat
  7. The installer will run from a command window
    • Do not close the window; it will close automatically when the install is finished
    • It may take more than an hour to complete the install
    • Your computer may reboot numerous times due to prerequisites for SAS being installed
      • Return to Step 2 and restart the process to complete the SAS install

Manual installation

  • Alternatively, to install SAS manually, which allows you to select different installation options, follow these steps.
  1. Click Download Installer
    • Enter your Miami credentials, if prompted, to begin the download
    • The installer will be saved to your Downloads folder
    • Do not power off, put to sleep, or disconnect from the network until the download completes
  2. Right-click the SAS .ISO file that you saved to your computer
  3. From the short-cut menu, choose Mount
    • If prompted by AutoPlay, choose Open folder to view files
  4. Open My Computer and locate the drive-letter of the ISO
  5. Double-click the Setup.exe
  6. On the first setup screen, select the language you would like to use
  7. Click Ok
  8. On the Select Deployment Task screen, select Install SAS Software
  9. Click Next
  10. On the Specify SAS Home screen, leave the default directory location
  11. Click Next
  12. On the Select Deployment Type screen, select Install SAS Foundation and Related Software
  13. Click Next
  14. On the Select Products to Install screen, select the productions you would like to install
  15. Click Next
  16. On the Select SAS Foundation Mode screen, select 64-bit Native Mode
  17. Click Next
  18. On the Select SAS Enterprise Guide Mode screen, select 64-bit Native Mode
  19. Click Next
  20. On the Select SAS Foundation Products screen, you can further customize the SAS products you need to install. Select the desired components, and then click Next
  21. On the Specify SAS Installation Data File screen, leave the directory location specified
  22. Click Next
  23. On the Select Language Support screen, click Next
  24. On the Select Regional Settings screen, select how you would like numbers, dates and times displayed
  25. Click Next
  26. On the Default Product for SAS File Types screen, select SAS Foundation (64-bit)
  27. Click Next
  28. The installer will perform several checks of your system before installation begins
    • Click Next once the system check has been completed
  29. On the Deployment Summary screen, click Start to finish the installation

 

My SAS license expired.

Each academic year, Miami receives either a new version of SAS or license files to renew existing installations.

Renew SAS license

  1. Click Download Renewal License
  2. Enter your Miami credentials when prompted, to begin the download. The zip file will be saved to your Downloads folder. Do not power off, put to sleep or disconnect from the network until the download completes.
  3. Locate the zip file that was downloaded, right mouse click on the file, and choose Extract all from the short-cut menu.
  4. Note the folder location where the files will be extracted, and then click the Extract button.
  5. Launch the Renew SAS Utility from your Start menu (Start --> SAS  --> Renew SAS Software 9.4).
  6. Select Browse and then navigate to the folder location you noted in step four. 
  7. Select the appropriate renew file for your version of Windows.
