Procedure: (M)drive / Map on Windows

Objective

• To provide instruction on mapping (M)drive on Windows

User

• CIT Faculty, Staff, Students 

Environment

• Personally Owned Computer 
  • Windows

Procedure

1. If you are off-campus, connect to the Miami VPN
   • Follow this link to download Cisco AnyConnect for Windows 
   • Follow these KB instructions to use Cisco AnyConnect VPN for Windows
2. Use the Windows search box to locate Command Prompt  
   • Note you can just type CMD in the search box to get the Command Prompt
   • To access the (M)drive server, enter: net use m: \\it.muohio.edu\files\myfiles\<firstletteruniqueid>\uniqueid /user:it\<UniqueID> * /persistent:yes
     • Replace <UniqueID> with your UniqueID 
     • Replace <firstletteruniqueid> with the first letter of your UniqueID 
       • example: If your UniqueID is smithxyz, your field should contain:
       • net use m: \\it.muohio.edu\files\myfiles\s\smithxyz /user:it\smithxyz * /persistent:yes
3. Enter your MUnet password 

Notes

• Miami offers a solution to map your drives: Visit our Service Catalog to learn more about the Windows map drive utility 
  • Windows map drive utility does not work for the CIT Web server
