Create non-submission assignments in the Gradebook / Canvas

Problem

• How do I create a column in the Gradebook?
• How do I create an assignment in Canvas that students will submit in class?

Resolution

• Columns in the Gradebook are created by adding assignments in Canvas. To add a column in the Gradebook to use for an in-class assignment or for an assignment without a submission, like participation, you can create a No Submission or On Paper assignment submission type
  • Refer to the Canvas Guide for how to create a non-submission assignment
• Note that No Submission or On Paper assignment submission types do not have a submission button for students. If you're requiring students to submit something in Canvas for the assignment, edit the assignment details to change the submission type
