Browser / Disable or remove an extension

Objective
- To provide instruction on disabling or removing a browser extension (plug-in)
- To provide links to the up-to-date support sites for Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari browsers
Environment

Cause
- Extensions (plug-ins) are small programs that extend the functionality of a web browser. Many prevent the storage of browser cookies and ask you to confirm or "trust" a site before continuing, which can affect performance of web apps
Resolution
Chrome
- In Chrome, click the More icon in the upper-right corner
- Select Extensions from the menu
- Select Manage Extensions from the menu
- On the My extensions page, locate the extension you want to disable or remove
- To disable the extension, move the corresponding toggle to the left (grey)
- To remove the extension, click the Remove button
- Close and restart your browser
Firefox
- In Firefox, select the menu icon in the upper-right corner
- Select Extensions and themes from the menu
- On the Extensions page, locate the extension you want to disable or remove
- To disable the extension, move the corresponding toggle to the left (grey)
- To remove the extension, click the corresponding menu button and select Remove
- Close and restart your browser
Safari (macOS High Sierra)
- In Safari on your Mac, select Safari in the tool bar
- Select Settings
- Select the Extensions tab
- Locate the extension you want to disable or remove
- To disable the extension, clear the checkbox for the extension (left column)
- To remove the extension, click the Uninstall button for the extension
- Close and restart your browser
