Check the authentication rate card for international travel / Duo
Body
Problem
- I need to access the Duo Rate Card to verify credit charges for authentication during international travel
- What are my offline Duo authentication options for use during international travel?
Scope
- When traveling outside of the continental United States, authentication via SMS text may not work, because Duo's rate charges exceed the limit of 20 credits
- Duo provides offline authentication options for times when you are without cell service or traveling internationally
- The passcode option on the Duo Mobile app does not require wireless or cellular connectivity; and it can be used in airplane mode
Resolution
- Before traveling internationally, check the Duo Rate Card to see if the rate charge for a single SMS text message is less than 20 credits
- Duo will not send an SMS text message, if a single SMS text message uses more than 20 credits
- If the location credit rate exceeds 20 credits, then use the preferred offline authentication method: the option to generate a passcode in the Duo Mobile app on your device
- Open the Duo Mobile app on your device and generate a single-use passcode within the app
- Enter the code provided in the passcode field of the Duo authentication prompt
- If you use a different phone when in your home country and don't have a data or cellular plan with your U.S. smartphone:
- If you don't have Duo Mobile installed on a device:
- If you do not have access to any of the options listed, contact IT Help by phone at 513-529-7900 or by live chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat for assistance
