XMediusFAX / Send a fax from a computer

Objective

  • To provide instruction on sending a fax via XMediusFAX
  • To provide instruction on sending a fax from a computer

Environment

  • 11354: XMediusFAX

Rationale

  • XMediusFAX allows you to send or receive a fax using your computer instead of a fax machine. After an account has been created for you, log in to Miami's XMediusFAX portal with your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password
  • If you have not already requested an XMedius account, you will need to request access

Resolution

  • Note: Access to the XMediusFAX service is only available while on any Miami University campus network or through VPN
  1. In your preferred browser, go to Miami's XMediusFAX portal
    • Log in using your UniqueID and MUnet password
    • If you receive an error message or are unable to log in using this action, you may not have an account associated with the service
    • If prompted to log in using your NT account, click Continue Session
    • If you are still unable to log in, complete and submit your request for assistance
  2. In the top-left corner of the XMediusFAX web page menu, click Compose Fax
  3. Enter the Recipient information
    • Name - name of recipient
    • Company - (optional) company of recipient
    • Fax - fax number of recipient
      • Include the 88-prefix for local calls or the 81-prefix for long distance calls
        • 5-digit phone numbers cannot be used
        • Enter 88 before phone number: example, 885135291234
        • If number is not in the 513 area code, use 81 and area code before phone number: example, 819371234567
        • Do not enter dashes between numerals
    • If sending to multiple recipients, select More recipients button and repeat above step
  4. To choose a cover sheet, click Style and select a template from the drop-down
    • Templates are available for Oxford and regional campuses
  5. Optional: Add a note to the recipient in the Comment field 
  6. Attach documents to the fax by clicking Attachment
  7. When you have completed the form, click Submit
  8. Optional: You can add the recipient to your contacts by selecting the check box on the Fax Submitted page
  9.  Click Ok
  10. To check the status of your outgoing fax, click Outgoing Queue
    • Click the Status link to view additional information
    • If nothing appears in this section, continue to the next step
  11. When your fax has been successfully transmitted, click Outbound History to view the completed time, duration, status, and any error codes
  12. You should also receive an email confirming that the fax has sent
