Troubleshoot file access or visibility issues (instructor) / Canvas
Body
Problem
- Why are uploaded or embedded images not displaying in my Canvas course?
- Why is a file not displaying in preview on a Canvas page?
- Why is an image or document in my course locked for students?
- Why are students seeing an Access Denied message when accessing a file in my course?
Resolution
- If the image or document file was recently uploaded to the course, it may take a few moments to process. If the file is still not displaying for you, try clearing your browser cache and cookies
- Canvas DocViewer is used to preview files. If you are unable to preview a file after processing, check to ensure the document or image is one of DocViewer's supported file types:
- If a file is locked for students, check its availability and visibility to ensure it is currently published in your course. If the file is in a folder, check the folder's availability and visibility as well:
- If students are getting an "Access Denied" message on a document or image (you can verify this in Student View in Canvas), but you can view it, the file may be linked to another Canvas course. Ensure the document or image is in the current course Files and re-link it using the course link option:
