Create or delete a Shared Drive (Team Drive) / Google Drive
Body
Problem
- How do I create or delete a Shared Drive (aka Team Drive)?
Rationale
- Google Shared Drives are shared spaces where teams can easily store, search, and access their files anywhere, from any device
- As of May 15, 2023, students are no longer able to create Shared Drives
- Faculty and staff retain the ability to create Shared Drives, and may invite students to participate in those drives
- Faculty advisers for student organizations may create a Shared Drive for their charges
Resolution
Create a Shared Drive
- Go to your Miami Gmail account
- Log in with your Miami UniqueID and MUnet password
- Select the Google Apps menu (looks like nine squares arranged in a larger square)
- Select Drive from the Apps menu
- On the Google Drive page (defaults to My Drive), click Shared Drives from the menu on the left
- With Shared Drives selected, click the New button
- Or right-click on Shared Drives and click New Shared Drive...
- Follow the on-screen prompts to create your Shared Drive
Delete a Shared Drive
If you created the Shared Drive
- If necessary, open the Shared Drive member list and remove the other manager-members
- In the Shared Drive directory, right-click the name of your Shared Drive
- In the pop-up menu, select the Delete Shared Drive option
- In the confirmation window, click the Delete Shared Drive button
- Poof!
If you did not create the Shared Drive
- Open the Shared Drive
- Check the member list, which is located in the banner, just under the name of the drive
- Ask the first person listed — the creating manager — to delete the Shared Drive
