Gmail / Insecure connection error received in Mac Mail

Objective

• To provide instruction on resolving a connection error received when setting up Gmail in a third-party email application when:
  • You receive an error of Connection Insecure when adding your Gmail account to Mac Mail

Environment

• 10262: Google Mail (email e-mail) 
• macOS
• Mac Mail

Cause

• There may be a certificate error or your antivirus is activated

Resolution

• IT Services does not support the use of third-party email applications: For the best Miami email experience, we recommend the use of the Gmail web service

1. Delete any outdated certificates in your Key Chain
2. Temporarily disable your virus protection
3. Add your account using the Preferences window, specifically
