Objective
- To provide an answer to the frequently asked question: "Can Miami IT Services stop or un-send an email I sent by mistake?"
- To provide instructions for setting up and using Google's Undo Send email option
Environment
- Miami Email
- 10262: Google Mail (email e-mail)
Resolution
- Miami UIT is unable to stop an email that has already been sent from your Miami email account
- A breach in security should be reported to IT Help by phone at 513-529-7900 or by live chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat
Google's Undo Send option
- Google allows the option to recall a message within a short span of time
- To choose an amount of time to recall a message:
- On your computer, go to your Gmail account Gmail
- In the top right, click Settings
- Click See all settings
- Next to Undo Send, select a Send cancellation period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds
- If you decide you want to recall a email, you have a short time after sending to cancel it
- To recall a message, immediately after you send it:
- In the bottom left, you'll see a Message sent notification and the options to Undo or View message
- Click Undo
