Canvas / Restore deleted course content

Problem

• How do I recover accidentally deleted content in my Canvas course?
• How can I restore a deleted Canvas assignment?
• How do I locate a deleted grade in the Gradebook?
• How do I find missing submissions in Speedgrader?
• How do I fix a missing or changed quiz in Canvas?

Resolution

Restore Deleted Content/Assignments

(Note that not all content can be recovered with this option)

1. Open the course where you want to recover the deleted content
2. Navigate to the URL and type /undelete at the end of the course number
   • e.g., https://miamioh.instructure.com/courses/123456/undelete
3. Press Enter to open this page
4. Search for the content name
5. Select Restore
6. Return to the course
7. Search for the content to verify it was restored, or go to the section (Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, etc.) to locate the content

Recover Missing Grades

• If you accidentally delete or override grades, use the Canvas Guide to view Gradebook History to locate the previous grades to manually restore them
• If you used the Assign To function to re-assign an assignment to a specific student or section, you may have unassigned the content from the rest of the students in the course. Check the assignment access by verifying "Everyone" or "Everyone else" is still one of the entries in the Assign To fields. If not, add it back. Grades should then return to the Gradebook for the remaining students

Restore Quiz Content After Import

If imported content overwrites an existing quiz with student grades, it cannot be restored using "undelete." You will most likely have to edit the quiz to restore it to its previous version, then use the Update Scores button in Speedgrader to repost the original grades/scores. You may access  the Test version of Miami's Canvas instance to view the previous version of the quiz, or request Canvas support from Miami Online
