Verify a received Gmail message is DMARC-compliant / Miami Email

Body

Problem

  • Did an email message I received pass DMARC compliance?

Scope

  • Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) is being implemented by IT Services to better protect the MiamiOH.edu domain from unauthorized use by phishers and spoofers, thereby protecting Miami’s users and brand. DMARC verification uses information in email headers to verify a sender's authenticity

Resolution

  1. Open the email message in question in Gmail
  2. Click the action  menu to the right of the Reply button
  3. Select Show original
  4. At the top of the resulting window under Original Message, you should be able to see three Pass or Fail checks for SPF, DKIM, and DMARC — all three must show PASS in order for the message to be DMARC-compliant

System

  • 10262: Gmail (email, e-mail)
  • Gmail web interface
