Miami Email / Recall a sent email message

Objective

  • To provide an answer to the frequently asked question: "Can Miami IT Services stop or un-send an email I sent by mistake?"
  • To provide instructions for setting up and using Google's Undo Send email option

Environment

  • Miami Email
  • 10262: Google Mail (email e-mail) 

Resolution

  • Miami UIT is unable to stop an email that has already been sent from your Miami email account
    • A breach in security should be reported to IT Help by phone at 513-529-7900 or by live chat at MiamiOH.edu/ITChat

 

Google's Undo Send option

  • Google allows the option to recall a message within a short span of time
    • To choose an amount of time to recall a message:
      1. On your computer, go to your Gmail account Gmail
      2. In the top right, click Settings Settings
      3. Click See all settings
      4. Next to Undo Send, select a Send cancellation period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds
         
  • If you decide you want to recall a email, you have a short time after sending to cancel it
    • To recall a message, immediately after you send it:
    1. In the bottom left, you'll see a Message sent notification and the options to Undo or View message
    2. Click Undo
