Security / Canvas notifications received for course not taken

Issue/Question

  • Why is our entity account getting Canvas notifications?
  • Why am I getting Canvas notifications for a course I am not in?

Environment

  • Security
    • Canvas
    • Gmail

Cause

  • A user in a Canvas course has had their email account compromised, resulting in their account sending unwanted emails

Resolution

  • Forward the suspicious email to our IT Services Security team at InfoSec@MiamiOH.edu
  • Do not follow any links in the email
