Gmail / Move email from an old account to a new account

Objective

  • To provide instruction on moving email from an old Gmail account in to a new Gmail account

Environment

  • 10262: Google Mail (email e-mail)
  • G Suite

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Gmail account from which you want to move email
  2. Click the gear in the top right
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab
  5. Look for POP Download
  6. Click the radio button next to Enable POP for all mail
  7. Look for IMAP Access
  8. Click Enable IMAP
  9. Click Save Changes
  10. Go to this Google page to set your option for access to less secure apps
  11. Click the slider so that Allow less secure apps is turned on
  12. Log out of the account
  13. Log in to the new email account
  14. Click the gear in the top right
  15. Click Settings
  16. Click the Accounts tab
  17. Look for Check mail from other accounts
  18. Click Add a mail account
  19. Enter the email address of the other entity account
  20. Click Next
  21. Enter the password
  22. Click the drop-down next to POP Server and change it to pop.gmail.com
  23. Make sure Port: is still set to 995
  24. Click Add Account
  25. Click No
  26. Click Finish
  27. Wait for the emails to download — this will take several minutes
    • If the processes fails, go back into Settings and click the Accounts tab
    • Click Edit Info next to the account and re-enter your password
