Primary Affiliation

Primary Affiliation refers to the primary classification that a user maintains in IT systems at Miami University. A user may hold multiple affiliations, but will only have a single Primary Affiliation. There are multiple identity systems that manage affiliations; RapidIdentity, IAM Portal, and Student Information for Families (FERPA Management System). Each system is responsible for collecting data about an individual, evaluating the information, and creating/updating accounts based on the data.

RapidIdentity-managed Primary Affiliations

Primary Affiliation is derived from a priority list in RapidIdentity. The following list is a collection of affiliations that RapidIdentity is responsible for managing. Each affiliation is listed with information about the entitlements that are applied and whether the affiliation is included in the genservok group that manages access to most university computing resources.

Secondary Affiliations

Secondary Affiliations are additional user classifications that Miami University applies to users in order to easily identify membership to a group. Secondary Affiliations can also provide additional access to computing resources. The following is a list of Secondary Affiliations:

Affiliation Code Purpose/Description
Classified Staff CLA Applied to Staff members with a position that is flagged as Classified from Workday
Unclassified Staff UNC Applied to Staff members with a position that is flagged as Unclassified from Workday
Instructor INS Applied to any member that does NOT have the Faculty affiliation, but is teaching courses
Lifelong Learning (Non-Credit) LLN Applied to any member that qualifies for Lifelong Learning, but is taking a non-credit course
Admitted ADM Applied to any Accepted student that has confirmed and has been admitted

Note

  • If the user qualifies for an affiliation, RapidIdentity and MU IAM Portal should only assign one Primary Affiliation. A user may hold multiple affiliations, but only one will be considered Primary Affiliation
